The Foundation was established in
1979 by Architect Sarbjit Bahga and is
being run by Architect Surinder Bahga
and Parveen Chopra.
Both have 20 years of
practical experience in designing and
supervision of various types of
buildings all over India.
Saakaar Foundation completed a large number of projects which
cover an impressive range from
religious, educational, housing,
public, health-care, commercial, urban
designing and landscaping schemes.
Two of the Churches designed by the firm were selected for an
international exhibition at the
V-Asian Congress of Architects held at
Lahore, Pakistan. The firm also held
an exhibition of their works in
Government Museum and Art Gallery,
Sector 10, Chandigarh. On the
occassion, eminent architect Uttam C.
Jain remarked that the exhibition is
going to fulfill its real task of
educating the public. Mr. Peter
Serenyi, a well known critic and a
leading American architect, described
the work of this firm as "…......
Interesting and responsive to
function, climate and materials".
The firm is actively engaged in research and studies of
built-environment. It is geared to
improve the living conditions of
society in rural, semi-urban areas
through the medium of architecture. To
achieve these objectives, the
Foundation has brought out three
books, prepared/participated in
exhibitions and organised seminars.
